Pain & Gain

cowpuncher Harley, Scott, Shari

There’s no easy way to say this.

Due to personal reasons our upright bass player Hurricane Harley Hoeft has made the tough call to depart from Cowpuncher. After years of writing, touring and performing with us it’s very hard to see him leave. He’s a machine.

Harley joined our band in 2010 and commuted from Saskatoon until he finally made the move to Calgary. It was fitting that we played our final show with Harls in his former hometown at Amigos in front of friends and family. We wish him the best.

As they say in the biz, the show must go on. A month ago we put out a call to the music community and began auditioning new players. We’re excited to announce that we have Shari Rae joining us on bass and backup vocals! With a formal education in jazz and a history of performing with some of Canada’s best roots outfits, Shari is extremely talented. We’ve been cramming in the rehearsals and our first official Cowpuncher show with Shari happens tomorrow night in Edson at The Olive Tree.

Meanwhile the year has barely started and we’ve already had to take a puncher to the hospital. We were filming our new music video on Sunday and Scotty suffered an injury on the ice. He’s finally back on his feet and we’re back to business as usual, with the exception of a back brace.

Man down! #yyc

Lethbridge Arts & Entertainment magazine LA Beat has posted a review of our show at The Slice last month. It’s a story of love, hats, and music.

Keepin’ it fresh, we’ve been writing our new album, with Shari, and have a few new songs to include in the upcoming sets. See you there!
